Meet the Therapist

  • Modupe Edogun LCSWA, LCAS

    Durham, NC Therapist

After spending 10 years working as a biomedical engineer, I decided to pursue a long-held interest in mental health services. I trained at Duke University's Counseling Center and the Durham VA where I completed a Post-Master's fellowship. I am dually credentialed in social work and substance use.

I believe in the transformative power of human connection.

My journey to becoming a therapist began during my time as a college resident advisor at Georgia Tech, where I discovered my natural ability to create safe spaces for others. As someone who took an unconventional path to therapy—starting with a degree in biomedical engineering—I bring a unique blend of analytical problem-solving and deep emotional intelligence to my practice. Though I initially pursued engineering for its stability, my passion for helping others live their best lives never wavered. After ten years in the medical device industry, I followed my calling and earned my Master's in Social Work at UNC-Chapel Hill.

My engineering background has gifted me with a methodical approach to problem-solving, which I now apply to helping clients navigate life's complexities. Having witnessed the impact of substance use disorders and serious mental illness within my own family, I understand firsthand the transformative potential of professional support. This personal experience drives my commitment to being the kind of therapist I wish my own family had access to.

My clinical experience includes training at both the Durham VA and Duke University's Counseling and Psychological Services, where I've worked with diverse populations facing various challenges. I specialize in helping clients work through anxiety, depression, and relational issues, drawing from evidence-based approaches including ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Internal Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, and Ecotherapy.

I believe that healing happens in relationship—with ourselves, with others, and with the natural world. My approach combines warmth and expertise, creating a space where clients feel both supported and empowered to grow. Whether you're navigating life transitions, processing trauma, or seeking deeper self-understanding, I'm here to walk with you on your journey.

In my practice, I particularly enjoy working with marginalized populations, especially Black individuals who may not always feel understood or comfortable in therapeutic settings. I'm passionate about creating a culturally affirming space where all aspects of your identity are welcomed and respected.

When I'm not in session, you'll find me spending time at church or in nature, enjoying West African dance classes, crafting, or sharing laughter with my family. These activities not only bring me joy but also inform my holistic approach to wellness and healing.
